Independence Tube Corporation – Decatur and Trinity, Alabama

TTL, Inc. has been providing Independence Tube Corporation (ITC) with engineering services since 2004. TTL provided geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing and special inspection services to ITC and their design team, Barge, Waggoner, Sumner & Cannon (BWSC), during the original construction of their Decatur, AL plant facility that opened in 2006. The plant produces 10” to 16” diameter tube steel. The original plant, located in the Mallard Fox Industrial Park directly adjacent to the Tennessee River, was 325,000 square feet and contained a covered barge slip. The foundation system was supported on pipe piles that were manufactured by ITC. In 2010, TTL worked with ITC and BWSC on a 125,000 square-foot addition to the facility. On April 27th, 2011, ITC’s Decatur facility was struck by a devastating EF-5 tornado that essentially destroyed the plant. TTL worked with ITC and the design team to assess damage, evaluate the structural components of the facility, and reconstruct the plant. The plant was re-opened approximately one year later in 2012. In 2013, TTL, ITC, and BWSC once again teamed together on a new 300,000 square-foot plant located in Trinity, AL. The Trinity plant is located on an 80-acre site in the Mallard Fox West Industrial Complex and produces 8-inch diameter and smaller tube steel. The Trinity plant began production in 2014.
